I am of a philosophical bent. I write. And I design outdoor spaces. So put these together and it makes sense that I enjoy discussing the power and allure of spatial dimensions and layouts. It is rather an obscure topic but it is so interesting.

And that is why I like to talk about corners. I write about the ‘Lure of the Sheltered Corner’ in my book, Heaven is a Garden.
This is a key landscape design principle. People like to sit somewhere outdoors where they can enjoy some safety and solitude. They like their back protected with a view out to the front. It is an atavistic instinct (great word-atavistic). It is why we like to sit in the ‘table in the corner’.
