Hart’s Tongue Fern and Columbine

An Unusual Combo that is Shade Tolerant and Deer Resistant

The hart’s tongue fern got its name from the fronds’ resemblance to a deer’s tongue. Here it is in late summer with the notable spores on the underside of the fronds. The three-lobed leaves of the columbine can be seen on the left by the rock.
