The phrase, a horse of a different color, means ‘something completely unique’. Plants with leaves of a different color - red, yellow, lime green or almost black - are also unique and can be more subtle than flowers. They are longer lasting, too. A yellow daffodil is a seasonal star but a yellow-leaved shrub such as the native Amber Jubilee™ Ninebark is always on display.
