In fall I plant up a large planter with white mums to lighten up a corner. The fall nights are dark where I live and white flowers seem to glow at this time. Note the variegated Carex at the edge of the planter.

Chrysanthemums, or mums as they are often called, are a fall flower favorite because of their amazing range of colors and bloom types. They respond to shorter daylight hours for flowering so they are at their zenith in September and October.

Mums look great in a sturdy planter and can be planted along with wintergreen, carex, pansies and ornamental cabbage, or kale, around the edges. These additional plants help to break up the massive solidity of a large mum plant.
