I am very fortunate to live in the trees! Outside I go, even though it's raining. The yellow daffies will be opening soon. Yay!

Made me laugh, as the rain pours down and the house is surrounded by water.

Being outside, gardening, and appreciating the beauty of our world are big contributers to feelings of well-being - being connected to nature gives everyone a different perspective on life. All of these things are also ways to be meditative. Spending time with repetitive gardening tasks like weeding allows your mind to slow down and disengage so that it can roam freely, while at the same time you're accomplishing something concrete. But depression is different from "the blues" - it's a medical disorder. Treatment for depression can vary depending on the person and the type of depression. Some folks respond well to medication, some use individual and group therapy, and some respond well to general wellness activities, such as exercise and yoga practices. There's no stigma attached to taking antidepressants if that's what helps you, just as there is no stigma attached to taking insulin if you have Type 1 diabetes. Gardening and all it's wonderfulness can help no matter what condition you suffer from by doing all the things for your brain and your body that Jan describes.
